Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer with a career that spanned 40 years. London is a torch singer famous for her soft, pleasant singing voice and languid contralto, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River" was recorded by her, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for 1974 for her role in Emergency! as Nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began acting as an actress as she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. with film in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the beginning of her professional musical career. Her final studio album in 1969, but continued to have success as the role of a female nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) and was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
